When Is A Label Misleading But Legal?

“Health, Climate, Tax Bill Signed” headlines The Wall Street Journal over a picture of a masked President Biden watching a fist-pumping, grinning Senator Majority leader Chuck Schumer. The bill referred to is the Inflation Reduction Act, so named to suggest it is aimed at reducing inflation, which it isn’t and won’t. The effect on the inflation rate will not “be statistically different from zero” according to the Penn Wharton Budget Model. Mislabeling a product is a felony, but mislabeling legislation is not, congress having refused to consider a bill that would subject itself to the standards it applies to private-sector companies.
